Enabling PDF File Editing in OpenOffice 3

I heard that the new version of OpenOffice would allow you to edit PDF files. When I heard this, I was thinking you would be able to import a PDF file into OpenOffice Writer and then edit it like you would any other document. I guess it’s not that advanced yet, and it’s not built into Writer.

According to this page, you can download a plugin that allows you to import PDF files into OpenOffice Draw (an image editing program) or Impress (similar to PowerPoint) and make minor edits to it visually (not to text). They plan to make it so the next version has more functionality, possibly like what I described.

Maybe there’s something better that I’m not aware of, but this is all I could find.

Hope that helps.

  1. Make sure you are using OO 3.0 – Download

    Go to tools>extension manager

    When extension site opens
Search for PDF and down load the extension

Select the PDF Extension and Get it

Go back to OO Import your file Save as a Hybrid and you can edit the PDF

It works great on average size files! If you have huge PDF’s (Over 30 pages)it may not load.
