A Simple Way to Print a Large Image on Multiple Sheets in Windows

Let’s say you have a large image that you want to print on a bunch of regular sheets of paper and then tape them together. This is an inexpensive way to create a poster (as opposed to having it done professionally).

You can go to Web sites that will break it up for you. But the problem I had is that it wanted to break my image into like 50 different pages, but I only needed it to be on 4-6 pages.

If you have Windows, there is a little secret about how to do it. You can use a little program that comes free with Windows called Microsoft Paint (it comes on Windows XP and likely on Vista but I’m not sure).

To open the program, go to the Start menu, click on Run…, and enter mspaint.

Go to File -> Open… and select the image file you want to print.

Then go to File -> Page Setup…. In the bottom right, select Fit To, and then enter the number of pages you want it to print on vertically and horizontally. Then click OK.

You can get an idea of how it will look by going to File -> Print Preview.

Then you just print it by going to File -> Print….

After printing it, you’ll need to trim the edges on each sheet and then tape them together.
